Meet our Pastor

Rev. Dr. Robert "Bob" Yawn
Senior Pastor
On behalf of the First Methodist Church Council, we are happy to announce that Rev. Dr. Robert “Bob” Yawn has agreed to serve as our full time pastor. Dr. Yawn is from Goshen, Alabama and currently serves as a Global Methodist minister. He previously served two churches, Pine Level Methodist and Murphy’s Chapel Methodist. Dr. Yawn is an experienced and energetic leader. His personal objective statement is: “To serve my Lord Jesus Christ through spreading His Gospel and maintaining faith-strength in His followers, pastoring His flock in the local church.” Please join us in welcoming our new pastor, Dr. Yawn and his wife, Cheryl. We look forward to having them at First Methodist of Greenville!

Amber Callis
Office Manager/Mother's Day Out Administrator
Amber celebrates 12 years of being our office manager. She is grateful to get to serve this church family and the community, and work alongside Mother's Day Out and all of the ministries of the church. She is married to Davis and they have two daughters.
Jean-Ann Johnson
Music Director & Choir Director
Jean-Ann Johnson has been named our new Music Director. Born in Huntsville, AL and raised in Florence, Jean-Ann's mother was the organist/pianist at Oakland Methodist where they sang together. Jean-Ann became the Choir Director as a teenager and served as such until she went to college at the University of Alabama where she received a Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees. She has been an active member since 2011, served as Choir Director for the last 8 years, and had the honor and privilege of working alongside our beloved and late Music Director, Jimmy Ansley. We are grateful to have Jean-Ann fill this position.

Rhonda Bentley
Organist/Pianist
Our church is excited to welcome back Rhonda Bentley, who served at FMC Greenville as Music Director and organist for almost 40 years! She retired in December of 2015, but has filled in when needed and continued to participate in the Christmas Cantatas over the years. We are so blessed and very excited that Rhonda will be bringing her talents back to our Music Program as full-time Organist and Pianist.

Steve Smith
Building Superintendent
Steve has taken care of the church and its needs for many years after working 40 years in the grocery business. Steve has a great love for helping people, enjoys singing in the choir and studying the Bible, and enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Jennie Nearing
Mother's Day Out Director
Jennie has many years of experience teaching early childhood classes and in many places from New Orleans to Atlanta, Nebraska, Birmingham, Greenville and even Japan. Jennie is a great asset to our MDO Program! She is married to Wayne, a retired airline pilot and school bus driver. They have four children and nine grandchildren.

Sarah Coker
Children's Ministry Director
Sarah Coker is our new Children’s Ministry Director! Sarah is from Greenville and has been married to her husband, Jeremy, for 19 years. They have two children, Brody (9th grade) and Anna (5th grade).
Sarah has worked in the Mother’s Day Out Program at FMC for five years and continues to teach in this amazing ministry in addition to taking on her new role. She has a great love for children, arts and crafts, reading, and spending time with her family.
Sarah strives to build confidence in children and says “I love making them smile, being silly, and reminding them that Jesus loves them.” She says, “First Methodist Church is a special place and as a person who has been outside looking in, I can say I am proud of the direction the church is going in. I am honored to get to play a part in the growth and success of the FMC’s Children’s Ministry.”

Taylor Smith
Youth Director
We are thrilled to announce Taylor Smith has been hired as our new Youth Director at Greenville First Methodist Church! Taylor is originally from Uriah, Alabama and comes to us with a very diverse background. She is a 2012 graduate of J. U. Blacksher High School and attended Southern Union State Community College. Taylor currently resides in Honoraville, and she and her husband, Josh, have two precious children, Wade (5) and Adeline (3).
Although new to this position, Taylor is not new to our church. She and her children were once a part of our Mother’s Day Out family. Presently, Taylor is a K3 Teacher Aide at Fort Dale Academy, and will continue in her role there as she takes on this new role at our church.
Taylor is kind-hearted, affectionate, cheerful and energetic, and is known for being a positive, dedicated leader. She is looking forward to building and nurturing meaningful relationships with our youth that support faith and spiritual growth.
